Lymington CE Infant School

History

History Intent

At Lymington CE (Aided) Infant School, we aim to provide a history curriculum that allows pupils to become excited, curious and develop a love of history, as well as developing pupils’ skills as historians. Pupils will begin to appreciate Britain’s past and that of the wider world, gain an understanding of how the past has influenced the present, recognise the courageous achievements of historical figures and understand what past societies were like. Through this, pupils will develop a chronological understanding of history, as well as an understanding of significant people and events. Pupils have the opportunity to discover history for themselves, by exploring a range of artefacts and historical information. In response to this, we aim to encourage children to ask questions, think critically, weigh evidence and develop perspective and judgement.

History at Lymington CE (Aided) Infant School enables pupils to respect different experiences, understand more about themselves as individuals and as members of society and also influence their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values. We believe that these are valuable skills and values that will support children throughout their lives.
